SCHOLAR BENEFITS
Each PROMISE Scholar, will receive full tuition support and a stipend. Additionally scholars receive the following benefits:
- Advising: Each PROMISE scholar will be assigned a faculty academic advisor to provide academic support and counseling to scholars throughout the course of the academic program to ensure successful completion of the master’s program.
- Mentorship: PROMISE scholars will be paired with a selected expert mentor to ensure they have the needed competencies to provide inclusive, evidence-based services during their field experience and offer guidance in their academic journey and as they look towards employment as school-based mental health providers.
- Upon graduation, PROMISE project scholars will receive Masters of Arts Degree in School Counseling or Masters of Social Work
SCHOLAR OBLIGATIONS
Complete Program of Study
- Complete the respective Master's Program as Stipulated in Program of Study as a full time student
- Complete 700 hours (SC) and 1000 hours (SW) of field experience in a high-needs school district in Tuscaloosa City Schools
- Take an Interdisciplinary Course
- Complete a Capstone Project that involves providing mental health training to stakeholders
- Undertake at least one professional development activity while in the program
- Must work as a school based mental health provider in a qualifying school for two-years for every 1 year of funding received
- Complete all service obligations must be completed within 7 years of the completion of the PROJECT PROMISE program
- Any amounts left owing on the account after that date will be repaid in cash.
ELIGIBILTY
A) Admission into The University of Alabama’s Graduate School
- Apply and be accepted into the Masters of Arts in School Counseling or Masters of Social Work.
- For acceptance into the Master of Arts in School Counseling a prospective student must meet minimum Graduate School admission requirements, and School Counseling Program Specific Requirement
- For Acceptance into Masters of Social Work, a prospective student must meet minimum Graduate School admission requirements, and the School of Social Work Program Specific Requirements
